Ilya Dumer - Department Chair
Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California at Riverside.
Having conferred our first undergraduate degrees in 1994, ECE Department will graduate its 25th class in 2018.
Although a young department, ECE has grown to house more than 300 electrical and 250 computer engineering undergraduates, as well as about 200 graduate students - the second largest graduate program on the campus. In the latest performance-based NRC S-rankings, our department received an average S-rank of 24 among all ECE Departments nationwide.
The Department has 32 tenure-track faculty and a number of cooperating faculty from other departments. More than half of our senior faculty are Fellows of IEEE and other professional societies. Our junior faculty have received 12 Young Investigator Career awards from NSF, ARO, or ONR. Our PhD graduates work in top research labs and academic departments all over the world.
The annual research expenditures of ECE department exceed $7 million, and include areas ranging from applied physics to artificial intelligence. Our faculty are consistently awarded highly competitive Federal research grants from the NSF, DoE, DoD, and also receive substantial state and corporate funding. The leading research thrusts in the department include
- Communications and Signal Processing
- Controls, Robotics, and Navigation
- Computer Engineering, including real- time systems, architecture, and VLSI
- Intelligent and Cyber-Physical Systems
- Computer Vision and Learning
- Nanoscale Materials and Devices
- Energy and Power Systems
- Intelligent Transportation Systems
Our department continues to excel in research, teaching, and service. Please look at our Web site to find out more about our programs, faculty, and students.
